Geocache Description:

One of two multi-caches near the village of Lurganboy.

Stage 1

A small cylindrical vitamin container containing the co-ordinates for stage 2. Trees may effect satellite signal.

Lurganboy Church of Ireland church is a rare example of a corrugated-iron church, making it a valuable part to the architectural heritage of County Leitrim.

Built in 1862, this 'tin church' is located on the outskirts of the small village of Lurganboy on an elevated site in the picturesque setting of the hills of Leitrim. There are only two churches of this kind in Ireland.

The church retains many original features including cast-iron lattice windows and decoratively-painted glass. The neat graveyard contained within a stone wall and the wrought-iron gates all contribute to the setting of the structure.

The Church was badly damaged in the storms of 1998, but restored soon after. The significance of the building was recognised by The Heritage Council which awarded money for its conservation in 2002. The outline of military barracks (built in 1716) can still be seen in the field to the rear of the Church.

Stage 2

Park at the following coordinates:

N 54° 18.709
W 008° 13.097

Then follow the path (laid by Mrs Zola'a dad in the 1980s) until you reach the coordinates found in the container in stage one. Please ensure that you replace the container exctly as you found it.

If you enjoy a nice 5 km walk, you can continue on along the path from the cache and turn left when you reach the main road. This will bring you back through the village, past the church and back to the parking area. Alternatively, you can just retrace your steps back to the parking area.
