In 2008 we remember the 90th anniversary of the end of the First World War. Dozens of studies, novels and other works were published dealing with reasons, history and sad consequences of the war. The war had numerous victims throughout Europe both among soldiers as well as among civil residents. The followers, however, have not forgotten about them: besides monuments found in our cities, monuments and statues devoted to the local victims are found all over the Hungary.
On the way to different geocaches I've met several such places and this initiated the idea to create a multicache composed of some monuments found in Budapest. The multicache consists of ten points, first nine of which are virtual and the last one hides the box.
The places have to be visited in the given order since just the location of the first one is given with full precision. The minute data of all the following coordinates have to be determined one by one observing some countable features of the monument actually visited. The general form of all coordinates is N 47° ab,cde' E 19° ef,ghi' where values for the a,b,....i letters shall be determined in situ. Mostly you will not need to decode all the 10 letters since it frequently happens that some numbers have multiple occurrence. In such cases the same numbers are encoded by the same letter. E.g. the initial coordinates (N 47° 23,935', E 19° 06,827') would be written as N 47° ab,cbd' E° 19 e,fag'.
To make you feel sure that your count was correct, for each site I gave the checksum of the numbers to find.
Before we start I would like to ask the geocachers not to upload images showing the places in question. On the contrary, it would be a pleasure to meet images of other monuments.
Finally, one important NOTE for the foreign geocachers: In Hungarian, the FIRST name of a person is written as the LAST one, e.g. Jules Verne is Verne Gyula.
And now, let us start the adventurous tour which does not seem to be a short one: go to the point #1!
#1: You are in the middle of a park with a playground behind the monument. To know the coordinates of point #2, you have to determine the following data:
a: number of figures in the monument
b: number of words on the right side, at the bottom etched gilded sentence
c: total number of columns of the two side tablets
d: number of letters in the last word of the front bottom etched gilded sentence
e: number of victims, family name of whose starts with "T"
f: number of swords
(Checksum: 29)
To find exact coordinates of point #2, substitute the values to N 47° ab,bcd' E 19° e,afd' scheme. As you see, here you needed just six numbers since some of them occur more than once.
#2: Note: Coordinates of waypoint #3 are given below, since information on waypoint #2 is temporarily unavailable. Is the place quiet and behind you is a church? Then you counted well and made you second step successfully. But now start to count again since here you have the most to calculate. To know the point #3, determine the following digits:
a: number of pieces forming the base of the monument
b: number of letters of the family name of the bronze-smith (not so easy to find, it's easier readable on point one!)
c: number of bushes forming a half circle behind the monument
d: last digit of the year in which the statue was made
e: last digit of the second year date on the base
f: number of figures forming the monument
g: number of guns
h: number of letters of the first name of the bronze-smith
i: number of letters of the family name of the sculptor
j: number of letters of the first name of the sculptor
(Checksum: 45)
Coordinates of point #3 are N 47° 26,598' E° 19 10,734', i.e. all the ten digits are different! I promise, this was the only case where you had to count so much!
#3: Silver firs beside the both sides of the monument and a busy street behind you. For the point #4 you need the following:
a: number of hands point up to the sky
b: number of letters in the second row of the inscription on the front side of the base
c: number of tablets listing the names of the victims
d: number of victims family names of whose starts with "GY"
e: number of letters in the first name of the victim listed as last in the alphabet
(Checksum: 20)
As you see, the task is already much simpler: here you need just five digits since the coordinates of point #4 are N 47° ab,bcc' E 19° de,daa'.
#4: This is a much more modest monument although made by a famous Hungarian sculptor. Again a busy street behind you but you have better to concentrate on counting since here you need a bit more digits to collect:
a: number of swords (look around carefully!)
b: number of letters in the first row of the marble tablet on the front side of the base
c: total number of the marble tablets
d: number of victims family names of whose starts with "A"
e: number of guns
f: number of victims family names of whose starts with "D"
g: number of letters of the first word in the inscription on the back side

With these seven digits, the coordinates of the point #5 are N 47° ab,cdc' E 19° ef,fgd'.
#5: Public transport reaches this place too, still the place is quieter than the previous. The rain almost completely washed down the original inscription from the pyramid made of limestone. For point #6, please count:
a: number of figures forming the monument
b: number of letters in the first name of the victim called 'Reguczky'
c: number of tablets listing the victims
d: last digit of the year in which this part of the city started to be founded. This data you will find on the opposite side of the street on the tablet embedded into a boulder (last digit of the first year date)
e: number of benches around the monument
f: number of letters of the family name on the little white marble tablet
(Checksum: 24)
Here you collected six digits since the coordinates of point #6 are N 47° ba,cde' E 19° ab,afb'.
#6: In spite of the nearby busy traffic, in the shadow of trees you find standing this classical monument in relatively peaceful place. Here you need just five digits to find:
a: number of columns listing the names on any of the tablets
b: last digit of the year in which the monument was renewed
c: number of letters of the family name of the sculptor
d: number of victims family names of whose starts with "B"
e: number of letters of the very last family name in the first column of the left-side tablet
(Checksum: 30)
With these five digits, coordinates of the point #7 are N 47° aa,bcc' E 19° d,ebc'.
#7: Nicely arranged square but a bit noisy because of the traffic going across. The monument is the most complex of all, walked around and observe carefully all its details. For the point #8 you need to count:
a: number of swords (look around well!)
b: number of letters of the first name of the designer and producer of the monument
c: number of daggers on the guns
d: numbers of male figures (regardless of the age. Attention: there is one man you can see just the face of him!)
(Checksum: 17)
Do we need here really just four numbers? Yes, because coordinates of point #8 are as simple as N 47° aa,bcc' E 19° b,abd'.
#8: A very nice monument standing on a characterless street-corner. Close vicinity of the monument is neatly arranged, however the nearby busy street is de-romanticizing. Number to find here for point #9 are as follows:
a: number of figures forming the monument
b: number of cast stone panels in one row following the top of the stairs.
c: number of visible boots
d: number of letters in the first name of victim called "CZINKER".
(Checksum: 18)
Four numbers are enough here, too, since the point #9 coordinates are E 47° ab,bbc' E 19° c,adc'.
#9: I'm sorry but you can't visit this monument on weekends and even on a weekday you need to go there between 7 am and 8 pm. For the point #10, i.e. to know the cache location you need:
a: number of tablets attached to the monument base
b: first digit on the red-framed plate attached to the firemen box opposite to the monument
c: big number painted above the plate on the same box
d: number of the stone benches
(Checksum: I don't tell you here, since it would be easy to find the last point at once)
The coordinates of the final cache: N 47° ab,baa' E 19° c,acd'.
#10: You didn't suppose that, did you? However you will probably choose a wrong way first. No problem, turn back and approach along the other side of the building, walk down to the fence and turn a bit left there. If you found it, just log you in. Congratulations, you successfully completed the mission!

Idén emlékezünk meg az I. világháború befejezésének 90. évfordulójáról. A háború kipattanásának körülményeirol, okairól, történetérol és hazánk számára különösen szomorú következményeirol szinte megszámlálhatatlan történelmi elemzés és irodalmi alkotás jelent meg. Az akkoriban Európa -szerte dúló súlyos harcok a katonaság és a polgári lakosság soraiból egyaránt nagy számban szedtek áldozatokat. Az utókor ezt nem feledi: városainkban található hosi emlékmuvek mellett a legapróbb településekben is emlékmuvet emeltek saját halottaik emlékére.
Az évforduló tiszteletére elso világháborús emlékmuveket bemutató multi geoládát indítok útjára. Az emlékmuvek olyan helyeken állnak, ahová más budapesti ládák nem vezetnek, és -egy pont kivételével- a fováros olyan részeiben találhatók, amelyek az elso (sot még a második) világháború idején sem tartoztak Budapesthez.
A multicache tíz pontból áll, ezek közül az elso kilenc ponton emlékmu, az utolsón láda található. Az emlékmuveket kötött sorrendben kell bejárni, mivel csak az 1. pont koordinátái adottak. A többi pont koordinátáinak perc és törtrészeinek számjegyei rendre az éppen meglátogatott emlékmunél állítandók össze úgy, hogy az N 47° ab,cde' E 19° fg,hij' általános képletbe a betuk helyére az adott helyszínen megfejtendo számjegyek kerülnek. A legtöbb esetben nem lesz szükség mind a tíz betu "dekódolására", ilyen esetekben az azonos számjegyeket azonos betuk jelzik. (Példaképpen a kiinduló pont N 47° 23,935', E 19° 6,827' koordinátái N 47° ab,cbd' E 19° e,fag' alakúak.)
Minden pontnál megadom a megállapítandó számjegyek összegét (kontrollszumma). Ennek ellenorzése nem kötelezo, de sokat segít abban, hogy az egyes helyszínekrol azzal a tudattal léphess tovább, hogy valószínuleg helyesek a megállapított számjegyek.
Mielott belevágnánk, arra kérem a keresoket, hogy a majdani logjaikból ne derüljenek ki az egyes helyszínek, illetve ne csatoljanak olyan fényképeket, amelyekrol a helyszínek felismerhetok, hogy az utánuk következok azonos esélyekkel indulhassanak útnak. Örömömre szolgálna viszont egyéb elso világháborús emlékmuvekrol készült felvételek közlése, ilyenek szerepelnek itt a ládaleírásnál is.
Kezdodjék hát a rövidnek éppen nem ígérkezo "kaland", indulj az 1. pontra!
GC1918-1: Egy park közepén álló emlékmuhöz érkeztél, mögötte egy tujasor és egy játszótér. A 2. pont koordinátáinak megállapításához az alábbi adatokra lesz szükség:
a: az emlékmuvet alkotó alakok száma
b: a jobboldali alsó aranybetus felirat szavainak száma
c: a két oldalsó tábla hasábjainak száma összesen d: az elülso alsó aranybetus felirat utolsó szava betuinek száma
e: a "T"-vel kezdodo vezetéknevu hosök száma
f: a kardok száma

A fentiekkel a 2. pont koordinátái N 47° ab,bcd' E 19° e,afd'. A 2.pont tehát hat különbözo számjeggyel adható meg, mivel egyes számjegyek többször is szerepelnek.
GC1918-2: Megjegyzés: A 3 pont koordinátái alább adottak, mivel átalakítás miatt ezen a ponton az információ átmenetileg nem áll rendelkezésre. Csendes a hely, és az emlékmuvel szemben állva hátad mögött egy templom? Akkor jól számoltál, sikeresen tetted meg a második lépést is. De most állj neki újból a számolásnak, mert abból itt van a legtöbb. A 3. ponthoz meghatározandó számjegyek:
a: az emlékmu talapzatát képezo tömbök száma
b: a bronzönto mester vezetéknevének betuszáma (keresd csak, nem könnyu, az 1.ponton jobban olvasható!)
c: az emlékmuvet hátulról félkörívben körülvevo bokrok száma
d: a szobor készítési évének utolsó számjegye
e: a talapzaton található második évszám utolsó számjegye
f: az emlékmuvet alkotó alakok száma
g: az emlékmu puskáinak száma

GC1918-3: Az emlékmu két oldalán ezüstfenyok, a hátad mögött egy forgalmas út. A 4. pontra való továbblépéshez meghatározandó számok:
a: az égnek emelt kezek száma
b: a talapzat elején lévo felirat 2. sora betuinek száma
c: az elesettek neveit felsorakoztató táblák száma
d: a "GY" betuvel kezdodo vezetéknevu elesettek száma
e: az ábécé szerint utolsó áldozat keresztnevének betuszáma

Amint látod, itt sokkal egyszerubb a feladat: csak öt számjegyre van szükség, amelyekkel a 4. pont koordinátái: N 47° ab,bcc' E 19° de,daa'.
GC1918-4: Az eddigieknél jóval szerényebb emlékmu, habár alkotója igen neves szobrász. A hátad mögött ismét egy forgalmas út, de most inkább a továbblépéshez összegyujtendo számokra összpontosíts, mert itt azokból ismét kicsit több van:
a: a kardok száma (jól nézz körül!)
b: az elolapi márványtábla 1. sorában levo betuk száma
c: a márványtáblák összszáma
d: az "A" betuvel kezdodo vezetéknevu áldozatok száma
e: a puskák száma
f: az "D" betuvel kezdodo vezetéknevu áldozatok száma
g: a hátlapi felirat elso szavának betuszáma

A kapott hét számjeggyel az 5. pont koordinátái: N 47° ab,cdc' E 19° ef,fgd'.
GC1918-5: Tömegközlekedési eszköz itt is jár, de a helyszín mégis csendesebb. Az eso már szinte tökéletesen lemosta a mészkoból készült gúláról az eredeti feliratot. A 6. ponthoz meghatározandó számok:
a: az emlékmu alakjainak száma
b: a Reguczky nevu áldozat keresztnevének betuszáma
c: a halottak neveit hordozó táblák száma
d: e városrész alapítása kezdetét jelzo évszám utolsó számjegye. Ezt nem az emlékmuvön találod, hanem szemben, az úttest túloldalán, a kotömbbe ágyazott táblán (az elso évszám utolsó számjegye)
e: az emlékmu körüli padok száma
f: a kis fehér táblán levo vezetéknév betuinek száma

Hat számjegyet gyujtöttél be, a 6. pont koordinátái ugyanis N 47° ba,cde' E 19° ab,afb' alakban írhatók.
GC1918-6: A közeli élénk forgalom ellenére, pár tíz méterrel odébb, fák árnyékában csendes a hely, ahol ez az emlékmu áll. A 7. ponthoz meghatározandó számok:
a: ahány hasábba vannak egy táblán szedve az elesettek nevei b: az emlékmu felújítási évének utolsó számjegye
c: ahány betubol áll a szobor készítojének vezetékneve
d: a "B"-vel kezdodo vezetéknevu elesettek száma
e: a balodali tábla elso oszlopának legalján szereplo vezetéknév betuinek száma

Itt tehát öt számjegyre van szükség, mivel a 7. pont koordinátái N 47° aa,bcc' E 19° d,ebc'.
GC1918-7: Szépen rendezett tér, de zajos a sokirányú átmeno forgalom miatt. Az emlékmu igen összetett, járdd körül és alaposan figyeld meg minden részletét! A 8. ponthoz meghatározandó számok:
a: a kardok száma (jól nézzél szét!)
b: az emlékmu tervezoje és készítoje keresztnevének betuszáma
c: puskatorök száma
d: a férfi alakok száma (korra való tekintet nélkül! Figyelem: van olyan, akinek csak az arca látszik!)

Csupán négy számjegy kellene? Igen, mert a 8. emlékmu koordinátái E 47° aa,bcc' E 19° b,abd'.
GC1918-8: Jellegtelen utcasarkon álló igen szép emlékmu. Közvetlen környezete rendezett, a forgalmas út közvetlen közelsége azonban illúzióromboló. A 9. ponthoz meghatározandó számok:
a: az emlékmu alakjainak száma
b: a legfelso lépcsofokot követo muko lapok soronkénti száma
c: a látható lábbelik száma
d: a "Czinker" nevu áldozat keresztnevének betuszáma

Itt is elég négy számjegy, mert az utolsó, 9. emlékmu koordinátái N 47° ab,bbc' E 19° c,adc'.
GC1918-9: Az utolsó emlékmü hétvégeken sajnos nem közelíthetö meg, hétköznapokon is csak 7-20 óra között. De ha jókor jöttél, akkor már közel a végcél, pihenj meg az egyik padon, majd láss neki az utolsó számolásnak. A 10. ponthoz, azaz a láda helyéhez az alábbi számjegyekre van szükség:
a: a talapzatra erosített táblák száma
b: az emlékmuvel szembeni tuzcsap-szekrényen lévo piroskeretes táblán szereplo elso számjegyek közül az elso
c: a tuzcsap-szekrényre a tábla fölé felfestett nagy szám

(Kontrollszumma: itt nem adom, meg, mert a furfangos eszuek esetleg azonnal a ládikára mozdulnának)
A láda koordinátái ezzel: N 47° ab,baa' E 19° c,acd'.
GC1918-10: Valószínuleg eloször rossz irányba indulsz. Sebaj, hátra arc, kerüld meg ellenkezo oldalról az épületet, és sétálj le újból a kerítésig. A 6x6x2,5 cm-es, mikroláda az egyik kiszögelésnél, egy hiányzó tégla helyén van, kb. 30 cm-re a földfelszíntol. Az üreg száját egy világosabb tégladarab takarja. Ha megtaláltad, ne csodálkozz, hogy jelszót is találsz benne. A multit ugyanis eloször a .hu-ra jelentettem be, de a szorös szívu moderátorok visszaküldték. Ezért egy ido után a gpsgames.hu-ra jelentettem be, ahol szintén bejelentheted a megtalálást. Most már tehát csak a logolás van hátra, a küldetést ezzel sikeresen teljesítetted, gratulálok!
