It’s amazing how many SA orienteers are also geocachers.
The 2 activities must appeal to the same sort of people. They both involve maps, a bit of exercise (you choose how extreme),using your head and the joy of discovery when you find what you are looking for.
We thought it might be a good idea to give the geocachers who haven’t tried orienteering a chance to taste what they have been missing- and a chance for the orienteers to pick up a new cache when they go to Mawson Lakes to do an event.
About once a year the public have a chance to orienteer around Mawson Lakes.
The summer orienteering courses (held in the parks and suburbs of Adelaide) are much easier than the winter ones (held in the bush) but are a great way to try a simple version of the sport and decide whether you want to spend a little more time when the cooler weather comes again to see what the “real thing” is like.
There will be people at the start area to explain how to orienteer, and all you need is your brain and some walking shoes.
This cache was placed while we were out checking the control placement for the orienteering event in January 2008.
The cache has been started with key rings- If you can maintain the theme that will be great.
