I was showing my 4-year-old son Ross how to launch a model rocket (just like when I was small) at this park. On the first launch, the parachute didn't deploy and the rocket came tumbling down with minor damage to a fin and the tube.
We thought we were okay, but on the second launch (with a larger engine), the rocket veered sharply after going up 500 feet. This time the parachute deployed (unfortunately) - the mild wind and the thrust off-course brought the rocket floating down into a tree. If you look up from where you find this cache, you should see the remnants of a purple Estes "Goliath" rocket and parachute. The sun was setting, so we decided to head home and start building a new one
They only cost about $8 at the low end, and you can get a complete Estes starter kit for under $30 at Star Hobby (I am not affiliated), a few miles away at 39° 02.815'N 076° 31.131'W
This park is also great for softball, riding bikes, and there's a nice playground, too.
The cache was relocated 50 yards to the new coordinates above on 2/28/04 after the cache was vandalized in December.
