Geocache Description:

A FUN mid-winter event to kick off the new year!!

WHAT???? It’s time to kick off the New Year with a little housecleaning. This is a fun event borrowed (with permission, of course) from Eelow and Beelow. Everyone know’s what were talking about…and we’ve all thought about it. Did Santa have the wrong list, or was your Mother-in-Law showing you her true affections? Maybe it was the Gorilla Head Slippers, the Wisconsin License plate made into a lovely handbag or the red and green crocheted neck tie from Aunt Gertrude…what ever IT is, we have a way for you to “share” it with someone who might just love it even more than you.

What am I supposed to do with this???

Wow, thanks - I think.

Well…..we figured it was that time of year where the cabin fever is setting in and the caching community isn’t as active as it is during the nicer weather. What better way to get off our butts than to have an EVENT…and clear out those gifts before we add more to the attic!!!

WHEN: Sunday, January 27, 2008; 11:30am – 4pm

WHERE: Collins Park, Moe Road, Clifton Park, NY

WHAT TO BRING?

1. A wrapped gift to exchange, one for each person in your group - all gifts should be labelled as either senior (adult) OR junior (kid). If you're in doubt as to whether your gift is Kid friendly...then it probably isn't. Rusty...maybe you should just let Mrs. Rusty handle it for you....

2. A watertight container to hide it in (decon, ammo can, baggie, garbage bag – whatever works for your gift)

3. A Potluck item for lunch (see list below, just post what you can bring and we'll update the list.)

TIMELINE:

11:30 am to 12:30 pm - Registration

12:30 pm - Groups head out into the park and “hide” their cache anywhere they can get, hide and return within 30 minutes (on foot). Cachers must return to the pavilion within 30 minutes with their “cache” coordinates. Note that these will be temporary cache hides so there is no need to worry about the standard 0.1 mile (528 feet) separation requirement.

1:00pm - All groups return to the pavillion with coordinates for each regift hide. Each group will need to write their coordinates on a slip of paper and drop it in a bowl. Once all the groups have deposited their coordinates there will be a drawing to determine who will be hunting which regifted hide. You can put your name on the re-gift or leave it a "?" - your choice.

1:30pm - The potluck BBQ begins and TB/geocoin exchange will be open as well.

2:30pm – Coordinates will be drawn from the bowl and search parties will head out.

3:00pm – Everyone returns to the pavilion where we will open the gifts. At this point, gifts can be traded if you like. It’s up to you what you do with them but you can’t leave them – uh….we figure you didn’t want it and neither do we.

We’re hoping that this is a FUN, “hang out and get to know some more cachers” event that gets everyone out for a little mid-winter activity. Although there are a couple of caches in the park and several others within a mile or so, the event is really to get out and have a little fun…and get rid of those lovely, “thank you so much”, “it’s….uh…interesting”, “I never would’ve thought of getting this for myself” gifts.
