I came across this spot quite by accident while walking with my son in the Lammermuirs. Making our way back to the car which was parked at the road end south of Halls, we decided to explore a track, not shown on the OS map, which was heading in the right direction running between Deuchrie Wood and Rammer Wood. A short distance along the track we came across this unexpected sight. When my son saw it, his immediate reaction was “seems like a good place for a cache” and I had to agree. As it happened I was carrying a fully prepared cache container so we placed the cache there and then.
Although not marked on the OS map a good track passes only a few yards from the cache. You can approach from Deuchrie to the west or from Halls to the east from where two routes are possible: a) following a track, not shown on the OS map, alongside the Cauld Burn (I have not explored this route but it looks promising) or b) taking the footpath, shown on the OS map, past Hallside. The tracks lend themselves to making circular routes starting from either the east or the west.
