Geocache Description:

Ardymagh is a townland which lies in the Glenwherry valley at the western end of Killylane Reservoir which is reached by a single tarmac road with passing places - Ardymagh Road.

How to get there.
From Ballymena or Larne – entrance by the main reservoir gates on the south side of the main Ballymena-Larne Road, the A36, 20 km from Ballymena, 11.25 km from Larne. The main gates can sometimes be closed between 10 pm and 8.30 am in summer, or the hours of darkness in winter. Alternative access is from the Ballynashee Road – about 1.6 km on the Ballymena side of the reservoir. Turn south at the crossroads at Glenvale, cross the Pigtail Bridge over the Glenwhirry river and turn left after some 400m onto the Ardymagh Road.

Killylane Reservoir lies within Ballyboley forest close to Wee Collin hill. Built in 1955 it is a popular spot for walking, trout fishing and stargazing – there is minimal light pollution during darkness.

The reservoir is situated on open moorland but the planting of conifers around the lake provides good shelter. Killylane contains a plentiful stock of wild brown trout which is supplemented by regular stockings of up to 5000 takeable brown trout. This maintains good fishing throughout the season. Popular flies include Heather Moth and Black Pennel.

The cache is not wheelchair accessible although parking with good views is within 200m. The cache itself is in a clear 1L tablock box with an official Geocach sticker on the lid.

A touring caravan site is available nearby in Ballyboley Forest and not far from this you can visit 2 other cache sites. From Killylane one can walk along a gravel track all the way to these caches, a round trip of some 4 miles - a very pleasant walk
