A traditional cache at a beautiful wild East-coast beach
Just 5 minutes South from Gore Bay off Cathedral Road (there is a sign-posted turnoff), Manuka Bay is a lesser known wild east-coast beach surrounded by bush clad cliffs, not a swimming beach but the Sun, pounding surf and spectacular backdrop make for a wonderful walking and picnicking spot.
Here also is the only currently accessible section of the Port Robinson walkway, DOC have been actively improving this nice bush walk which climbs quite steeply thru Native Forest to awe-inspiring ocean and cliff views.
But don’t worry - the cache location is accessible to people of all fitness levels either by walking south along the beach then heading inland near the end or along the track through the lupins, the cache location is a short walk into the bush section of the track.
If your GPS doesn’t like trees the clue should help.
The cache is a 1 litre clear plastic container which initially contained:
Log book, pencil, sharpener and stash letter
Piece of Mt Somers petrified wood
Small fern fossil
Small slice of polished Lace Agate
Plastic critters
