located in Freeman Lake Park
January 7, 2008 was a very mild, unseasonable warm day. After
school my daughter and one of her best girlfriends went to Freeman
Lake Park to wander around, enjoy the nice weather and chat in the
great outdoors. As they were meandering around off trail, they
crossed a creek and came upon an alligator! Thankfully the 3 foot
alligator was no longer able to hurt them.
How did an alligator come to be living in Kentucky at the park, and
more importantly are there more? It is thought that perhaps the
alligator was kept as a "pet" and released when it got big. It is
probably that being cold blooded the alligator succumbed to the
snowy cold weather we had the week before. The police were notified
and the alligator body has been removed.
The cache is placed a short walk down the trail from where the
alligator was found.
Coordinates N 37 43.548 W 085 51.751 will lead you to the creek
bank just a few feet east of where the alligator was found lying by
the creek. Or from the bridge south of the cache look east where
you will see another smaller bridge. The alligator was found on the
north bank of the creek between the two bridges -- just in case you
are interested.
Hunt this cache if you dare
and beware of alligators!
