Geocache Description:

A simple Traditional Cache, near the Watson Gap Bridge, accessible from the beach or by a short walk from the Encounter Bikeway. There is no need to bush bash.
You are looking for a 35 mm film container that is only a step or two off the footpath.
As this is a micro no swaps please and I suggest you take a sharp pencil.
Please replace the lid firmly.

CAUTIONS:
- DO NOT ATTEMPT to approach the GZ directly from the Victor Harbor-Port Elliot road.
- WATCH OUT FOR SNAKES! When setting the cache I saw a 1 metre brown snake crossing the Bikeway!

The Goolwa – Port Elliot railway opened in 1854 and when the line was extended to Victor Harbor in the 1860s it was necessary to construct a wooden bridge over the watercourse at Watson Gap. The Gap was named after the Rev. J. Watson, the first Rector of St. Jude’s Church (1855-61), Port Elliot, who lived nearby.

In 1906 the old bridge was replaced with the present reinforced concrete bridge that has carried the rail traffic to-and-from Victor Harbor for just over one hundred years.
The bridge is described as having a parabolic arch and is reputed to be the first of this design built in Australia. It was listed on the State Heritage Register in 1968, (SAHR 11183).

While in the vicinity admire the view and perhaps take a photo through the arch.
