Mounds of Mulch Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Flowerdoc: The creeping mounds of mulch have made this specific cache location untenable so I will have to archive this one. HOWEVER, I plan to locate a new cache nearby in a place less likely to be covered with composted wood chips. So, if you enjoy the smell of fermenting plant materials, look for a new cache within a few days. Happy hunting.

Geocache Description:

The cache is located adjacent to the City of Charleston’s “Leaf & Limb Drop-Off Site.”

The original cache container has been replaced with an ammo can. It is defended by a number of thorny plants in a wooded area next to some huge mounds of plastic infested mulch. The contents of the original cache included the usual log book & pencil, a Travel Bug (Ken Guru), and for the first finder an 1888 U.S silver dollar in less than mint condition. Please use your best stealthy techniques during those times when there are many people in the area (e.g., during Fall and after a windstorm).

Although some old signs indicate that the drop-off site is open for limited hours, in reality it is open 24/7. The facility is available to citizens of Charleston for leaf and limb disposal. Unfortunately, some people are unable to remove their leaves from plastic bags before placing them on the recycling mounds for grinding while others have thrown trash in the area. Groundspeak would probably not permit me to list here what ought to be done with these folks. Nevertheless, both the partially decomposed leaves and ground-up wood chips at the site are available at no cost and, if properly used, make great mulch.
