Geocache Description:

A 4 stage historical tour around this 1820 Settler Village. Last cache particularly special to me as I will be getting married there on the 21st of March 2008.

First co-ords takes you straight to Cache 1(you have to log your finds), but after that you will need to park at S 33*29.791 E 026*50.627
To obtain cache complete the following puzzle:

S33*29.7__(a) E026*50.__(b)1

a. Toposcope commission in 19__ + Crause's Cause distance = a
b. Collingham Clark + Sidbury Daniel minus 1 = b
This hill is where all Settlers gathered one morning and were told how far to travel in which direction before they could make a settlement for them & their family. To this day some of these farms are still in those names.

To get to Cache 3 you need the following answers:
co ords are S33*29.9__(1) E 026*__(2)9.283
1 The year in which the Toposcope monument was erected19__ minus 16 = __(1)
2 Dist of Ferndale Hyman = __(2) read the plaques

Cache 3 directions (road a little hidden) : as you exit Cache 2 and get back to Main Road - go straight across unto gravel road. At end turn right and when you see the two roads on your right, take the second one to get to your final co ords.

This structure is known as the Gun Powder House and was erected during the 'Savage Wars' to house all gun powder safely away from town should it explode.

Once you have located Cache 3 find the oldest Church in Bathurst (there are two but which one is two years older?)

Before you start looking for this cache and gearing up for that cold beer down the road at The Pig, you need to work the following out to get final co-ords:

S 33. (1).(2).(3)
E 26.49.(4)8

1) Enid Mary died__.7.1971?
2) Locate Park for Angels Board: Nr for Fred Sparrow?
3) Park for Angels: How many 'Bowles' are buried at this Church?
4) Graveyard: Mabel Kate 'entered into rest' on 22nd May 19__?

Bathurst has an amazing history and in this hunt I have used 3 of its 7 Heritage sites. For more info go to www.bathurst.co.za or contact Bev at the Port Alfred Tourism Office and she'll burn your ears off with her knowledge at 046 6241235.
