This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: Hello,

As there's been no response to the earlier note, I am forced to archive this listing.

If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the near future, just contact me email, including the GC Code, and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Thanks,
-OReviewer

Geocache Description:

The Falls Bridge that is still in use today was erected in 1894-95 by Filbert Porter & Co. It is a Pratt through truss bridge, pin-connected and with a secondary system of bracing. 4 To anyone crossing the bridge, it is evident that the overhead segments are exceptionally heavy. This is because the original design was for a double deck bridge, but the upper deck was not built. The original plan is an early example of transportation engineering with respect to the approaches to the bridge levels. 5 The bridge is 600 feet long, 40 feet wide, and connects Kelly Drive at Calumet Street with the West River Drive at Neill Drive on the opposite side of the Schuylkill. The abutments and two piers are of stone masonry. At the time of construction, James H. Windrim was the Director of Public Works and George S. Webster was Chief Engineer. The cost of the bridge was $262,000, in contrast with $102,000 for the City Avenue Bridge which was 712 feet long and had been built with private funds but was later purchased by the city.

This is a 3 stage multi-cache that starts at the Falls Bridge. The community assoc. just raised money to light the bridge and Gov. Ed Rendell threw the switch last week.

Stage One is a Micro that has been highly camo-ed. Its about the size of a 35mm film canister. There is no reason to leave street level when retreiving this stage, but watch your step as there is a steep hill nearby. IF you find it, you will find the cords for stage 2. When replacing the cache please look for the "X" as it helps with the camo.

Stage 2 is a short drive away. You will be looking for a Bottle Pre-form. No need to enter the Water Dept. parking lot nearby.

I stopped by to replace the container and update the cords for stage 3 so no need for any math to get the final cords

Stage 3 is just down the road from stage 2. You will be looking for a .30cal Ammo Can. This is the stage that makes the terrain a 2.5. You will need to hop a fence, take a short walk off road and do some heavy bushwacking. Please be careful as you zero in on GZ because the cache is on a hillside. I wouldn't advise this stage at night only for visibility reasons.

My first container was a 4x4x10 Lock-Lock container that was burned to the ground by a small brush fire (See Pics in Gallery). I tell you this because you may get some soot on you as you approach GZ. This can be avoided if you step carefully.

The container has been re-loaded with small trade items
