Geocache Description:

Purple is one of Mrs. Gator’s favorite colors. When you find this cache it will become one of your favorite colors as well. Trade items in purple would be greatly appreciated - but are definitely NOT mandatory! Have loads of purple fun!!

Ever since I can remember, I have really liked the color purple. It was not until recently that I realized how much I like it or how important it is, not only to me, but to all mankind from time immemorial. When I was just a wee gator hatchling, in the summer our mama & papa gator would treat us to a snow cone. My favorite was grape. I usually ended up wearing as much purple as I was eating. I had purple lips and a purple mustache and of course, a really cool-looking purple tongue. As I grew older, there were purple sweaters and purple mini-skirts, purple jackets and even a purple tent dress when I was in Jr. High School. In my high school Cosmetology class I was once experimenting with colors & ended up with 2 really cool purple streaks in the front of my hair. This was before purple hair was considered fashionable. I was young and didn’t really appreciate them at the time…in fact I was mortified. That was until one of the members of a high school garage band called “Purple Ozland” said “man you look really far out! Wanna come to one of our gigs and just hang with the band?” We’ll leave that story for another time.

There was Jimi Hendrix and Purple Haze clouding my brain and Prince (his royal purple-ness) bathing me in his Purple Rain. In “Jailhouse Rock” the whole rhythm section was the Purple Gang (which was by the way, a notorious Detroit gang in the days of prohibition). There’s even a band named Deep Purple. Purple is the color of Elizabeth Taylor’s eyes and our dining room curtains. All over the world, Red Hat Clubs wear purple as a sign of age acceptance and pride (When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple, etc.) Purple, purple, nothing rhymes with purple. In the novel, The Color Purple, one of the characters, says that purple is a sign that God has a sense of humor. Purple has long been the color of royalty and in some ancient times, only the very wealthy could wear or afford purple. The Bible mentions trading in purple as being a legitimate career (she was a seller of Purple). Purple flowers include Iris, orchids, dahlias, zinnias, hydrangea, wisteria, pansies and even roses. The Purple Martin is a bird that is much appreciated in our part of the country because it eats thousand of mosquitoes in a single day. Have you ever had a purple passion or seen a purple cow? Have you eaten boysenberry pie or seen purple sage? Have you heard the Riders of the Purple Sage or seen Deep Purple Fall over sleepy Garden Walls? Have you ever seen a one-eyed one-horned flying purple people eater or how about the purple mountains majesty? How about a big purple dinosaur (I love you, you love me)? Just about anything you want can be colored, painted or dyed purple. Did you know that black paint fades so badly in the sun that professional painters use a dark purple paint called “eggplant” that resists fading. Speaking of eggplant, how many other fruits and vegetables are purple? There are grapes and squash as well as plums (prunes and raisins, but that goes without saying). There are purple onions and purple cabbage, blackberries and figs, all of which are an important source of phytochemicals which can protect against cancer, improve memory and keep your heart healthy. Speaking of hearts, a purple heart represents a great sacrifice for our country and purple toes mean you’re either cold or have been making wine the old-fashioned way.

There are 181 other caches world-wide which include the word purple in their name…2 of those are in Oklahoma and one of them belongs to the Gators (Post-Prairie Purple). Purple is used as a school/team color all over the world and has significance for everything from church vestments to Mardi Gras. I even heard a Kansas Fan once say that he “bleeds purple”. In color theory, purple is defined as any non-spectral color between violet and red. In art, purple is created by combining the two primary colors of red and blue. The word purple comes from middle English and Latin and was used to describe a type of dye made from the spiny murex snail. A star in the Pleiades appears purple because it spins so fast. If you’re playing snooker, the purple billiard ball counts 10 points. There is the Purple Earth Theory, the Purple Forbidden City, military purple assignments and the WWII Purple Code. People with a purple Aura are said to love ritual and ceremony. Back in 1965, when the manufacture of LSD was still legal, it manifested itself as the infamous little purple pill. Klingons have purple blood and Jedi Master Windu has a purple lightsaber. HTML recognizes 22 different shades of…you guessed it – PURPLE.

Whew! That probably tells you just about everything you always wanted to know except where the Gator’s Box O’ Purple is hiding. You are looking for a 50 cal. Ammo can. The outside is green just like it was when we bought it from the surplus store. However, the inside is packed to the brim with purple stuff. There’s a purple log book, with a purple pen. There’s purple nail polish, purple lip gloss, purple plume pens, purple manicure tools, a purple whoopee cushion, purple mirror, purple TB…well, you get the picture. Team GatorOKC had a blast shopping for this cache. We packed it with stuff to appeal to a vast cross-section of people and we hope you enjoy the hunt. Please try to plan ahead when you cache this one & bring something purple to trade. Pink may be Aerosmith’s favorite color, but we think yours is going to be PURPLE! Enjoy your Quest For Purple!!!

Congrats and High-5-Gator-Chomps to Max and 99 for FTF!!
