Geocache Description:

Cache contained replaced on 8/22/2016.

Warren C. Coleman was born a slave in Cabarrus County, NC, on March 25, 1849. He was the illegitimate son of Confederate General Rufus C. Barringer and a black slave, Roxana Coleman.

Warren C. Coleman was, at one time, the wealthiest black man in North Carolina.

In 1901, Warren opened the first black owned and operated cotton mill in the country. The brick mill opened for business near the railroad tracks running between Wilshire Avenue and Old Charlotte Road.

Warren C. Coleman died in 1904.
