The Newton Creek tidal wave
The Sitch is a tidal wave that, under certain conditions, zigzags up the Yealm creek. Whilst most frequent in the winter time, at high tide and after heavy rain it can occur at any time. The long swell funnels from the sea into the river where it builds up to form the wave. It is best to moor your boat facing downstream as the wave has been know to swamp a vessel when it breaks over the stern. At low tide you can walk from Newton Ferrers across the Voss (causeway) to Noss Mayo. Beware though; The Sitch can suddenly raise the water level by 7 or 8 inches; enough to make your feet very wet.
Finding the cache may be a test of stealth. Enjoy the view while you carefully hunt. There is no need to move anything as it is just tucked in or around.
