Geocache Description:

Dirt Parking, Flat Bike Trail, Rocky Hunting Area

Historical Marker - Orange County

Campsite of Anza
Marker Erected: 12/15/1976

"On September 29,1775, Juan Bautista De Anza, with a party of over 200 emigrants and soldiers, set out from the presidio at Tubac, Mexico, to found San Francisco. His party reached the San Gabriel Mission on January 4, 1776 after many miles of torturous travel. Here they learned that the Indians had burned the San Diego Mission and murdered Father Luis Jayme. Anza and part of his escort were ordered to ride immediately to San Diego to assist in supressing the Indian rebellion. The Anza relief party made its first camp near here on January 7, 1776."

This marker was moved from the end of the block wall, to a very reasonable location, closer to the cache coordinates on the bike trail. If you plan to visit this site, you will have to park in the neighborhoods and walk in, or access it from the bike trail while caching along the SART.

Stand and examine the area, ponder what Anza must have seen. No need to go down below the bike trail level. Stand and look some more, are you bored yet?

You'll be looking for a camo'd pill bottle. Again, it's in a boaring location, behind a cover rock on the first row of large rocks just off the flat dirt. Don't go into the rocks, it's right by the top. Put cover rock back please, so muggles don't see my boring hole...
