Geocache Description:

This is one of a series of caches in and around the town of Wallingford. The well known crime writer Agatha Christie owned a house in the town and spent her later years there. All the caches in this series are named after her books or stories in them.

To find this cache you will need to answer some questions about the village of Berrick Salome. It involves some walking along the village road which has no footpath but almost no traffic - but do be careful. The easiest place to park for this cache is at the pub.

Waypoint 1 is at the pub itself - or at least its sign! Look carefully at the sign and count up how many different chess pieces are shown; double it and this is A.

Waypoint 2. Look for the plaque commemorating the village's Great Fire. B is the last digit of the year it occurred. C is found by adding together the first and third digits of the year then subtracting the second digit.

Waypoint 3. Like many villages this village has something to mark the year 2000. Look on the millenium marker and count up how many times 'Berrick' appears. Add 1 to this to get D.

Waypoint 4 involves some retracing of steps and a footpath across the fields to the church (if it's too muddy keep to the road, but it is further). Find the grave of Peter Roberts - the Gentleman in Papers of the title. E is 3 plus the number of newspapers recorded.

The cache is at N51 38.6DE W001 0B.0CA and is a medium sized lock & lock box in a cloth bag with some goodies.

If you have time, look in the church - it's fantastic!
