Geocache Description:

Join us for a day of caching and trashing at the Baytown Nature Center. The customary $3 entry fee is being waived for the day of this event.

This CITO day at the Baytown Nature Center is in conjunction with the annual Trash Bash cleanup of Houston area waterways. Each year volunteers gather along the Texas waterways to do their part in cleaning up the environment and participate in the largest statewide event to educate the public about the importance of our water resources. For the CITO event, geocachers will be gathering at the Crystal Bay Butterfly Garden area of the Nature Center, at the listed coordinates.

The Nature Center entrance is located at N29 45.293 W95 02.142 -- 6213 Bayway Drive, Baytown.

Schedule for the Day:
8:30-9 am -- Registration and set-up

9-11:30 am -- Debris Clean-Up

After the cleanup, volunteers will receive t-shirts and lunch as well as a chance to win exciting door prizes. The Eddie Gray Wetlands Education Center staff will also be there to provide fun educational exhibits including live animals, games and a microscope lab.

Trash bags and other clean-up supplies will be provided. Be prepared to get dirty, and bring some work gloves. It's recommended to wear pants (not shorts) sturdy boots or other footwear -- maybe even rubber boots or waders. And don’t forget your CITO T-shirt!

I plan to continue the CITO Event after the debris removal has wrapped up, to give folks a chance to visit, trade travel bugs, and find all the caches in the park.

For finding all the caches in the park, a bicycle is recommended. Sorry, but dogs are not allowed in the Nature Center, even on leash! They're trying to protect the birds, nests, and other wildlife, plus the place can be hazardous to you pooch. Besides exposure to snakes, skunks, and other critters, I'm told the water at the shoreline is full of concrete rip-rap, rebar, and fishing line, and we all know how dogs love to jump in the water.

Items to bring: Chairs, Gloves, Trash pick up device (Optional)
