Geocache Description:


When you find this cache you will be standing at the entrance to an old underground bunker from the 1960s-1980s. We couldn't find any historical information on this specific location, so it was either a storm shelter, Cold War fallout shelter, or both. This bunker was accessible until vandalism and loitering became a problem over the years. It is now sealed off with concrete. Look for the vent pipes adjacent to the entrance. If you walk south into the mowed area, you will be standing on the roof. You can see the outline and therefore the size of the bunker. Look for another vent pipe in this area.

This area is residential, but the cache is away from houses. It is on public land within a central common area on a residential loop. Permission has been obtained from local neighbors. If you would rather not park on the street, you can park at N37°42.360, W 85°50.770 (a nearby church) and walk to the cache. You do not need to cross private property to access the cache, even if you park at the above coordinates. Cache is a micro with only a logbook. Bring a writing utensil.

This is our first cache hide, so hopefully it works out well. We hope to meet some of you on the trail soon.
