Geocache Description:

SBUX~PA Highspire Travel Plaza, Milepost 247.4 E Pennsylvania Tpke

Above coordinates are for the front door. Proceed inside and around the corner to the right in the "service plaza" and look for the friendly "Stammtisch" (German, it means something like "regular's table" or "regular get-together".)

A Kaffee-Klatsch is a German term for getting together with friends over coffee and shooting the breeze!

This month we host German geocacher spuchtfink from Bremen.

Tammo's handle befits the seafaring tradition in his family's background. In the 1950s, a book by Albert Semsrott entitled, "Hein Spuchtfink, ein Bremer Schiffsjunge," inspired him to become a sailor himself, and so he went to sea as a "Schiffsjunge," literally "ship boy," the lowest rank in the German Merchant Navy. German sailors call a boy of slight build a Spuchtfink.

As was the rule, after a few voyages Spuchtfink went to sailor's school in Elsfleth and completed his courses in 1957. Many of his classmates signed on aboard the famous Flying-P liner, the Pamir, one of the last commercial sailing vessels and a ship Spuchtfink knew well from an ealier voyage.

The "Spuchtfink Coin" was created to honour the memory of a fine ship and the young men who sailed in her.
