Geocache Description:

1st cache by The Fighting Mongooses.

According to the Port Lincoln Council website, Port Lincoln was discovered by Matthew Flinders sailing on the HMS Investigator in 1802. The Aboriginal Traditional Owners of the land may disagree about who discovered the place as they were there first…

Flinders named the bay ‘Boston Bay’ and Boston Island is the predominant island in the bay. Locals inform me the current local Mayor owns the entire island which he purchased in the 1970s.

Parking is available approx 150 metres before of after the cache location in either direction along the highway, both on the beach side. Lions Park is closer to town, or heading to Boston there is an unmarked area to pull off the main road.

There are two ways to approach the cache which is located along the Investigator Trail. One via the trail itself or alternatively you could walk along the beach. When GZ is located (easier to spot from the beach) I would suggest accessing it from the side, rather than from underneath to secure it quickly, and this will reduce risk of bumping your head. The side method of retrieval is a short but steep way from the trail to the beach, so wear decent shoes and be careful. Watch out for snakes in warmer weather.

The cache is a regular sized container filled with items suitable for younger children. Please hide it well.
