The Toy Box Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

johnny_mud: Archiving this one prior to our pending move to Darwin. I hope all those that found it enjoyed the cache. Plenty of room now in this area for another cacher to place a new one. Enjoy. A new "The Toy Box" will established in our new home location soon...

Geocache Description:

Background:
The Plenty River is a tributary of the Yarra River in Melbourne. Originating in the forested slopes of Mount Disappointment, the Plenty River is the source of Melbourne's first major water supply in the form of Yan Yean Reservoir.

The Plenty River Trail runs along the banks in the lower reaches of the river. Numerous parks and playgrounds can be found along the Plenty River Trail making it ideal an ideal location for a day out with the family.

The Cache:
This is the first cache placed by Team Johnny_Mud.

The posted coordinates should have you in a nice park situated right next to the Plenty River. The cache position is visible from the Plenty River Trail which will lead you to the site from either an up or downstream direction.

The cache is a 2 litre Sistema suitably camouflaged to match the surroundings. Please replace the camo canvas when finished to keep the water out. You will need to be careful when retrieving or replacing this cache as the area is very open. Muggles on foot and bike may appear out of nowhere; however the nearest houses are quite some distance away. The cache has been sited and designed by 7 year old GeoSam. It has been filled with selected small items that kids will (hopefully!) find interesting – hence the name. If you remove any swaps then please replace with other items that are “kid-friendly”. No adult swaps please.

The cache original contents include: a mini Roboraptor, a small slinky, a ‘B Movie' wobble head guy, dice, a Flippin’ Frog, a small sticky frog, a mummy ring, a Hotweels car, a small plastic frog and a little plastic octopus.

Some other points:
If you are traveling by car to the sight you can park close to the Banyule Soccer Club ground at S37 43.667 E145 06.385. There is also a playground close by on the opposite side of the soccer field. If you park at the soccer ground it is around a 600m walk to the cache site.

If you choose to explore the area on bike the cache site can be accessed from either direction by the Plenty River Trail. The trail can be easily ridden by the little ones even if they have training wheels! It is reasonably flat in this part, however other sections have steeper hills.

If the little cachers keep their ears and eyes open they will see a huge amount of wildlife. We heard two kookaburras the day we set the cache and saw a huge fish in the waters of the Plenty River – and we were only there a few minutes!

We hope you and the little cachers enjoy our first cache. We welcome any feedback you might like to provide us – good or bad.

Enjoy.
