Geocache Description:

A cache location loaded with Sistersville history.

As with most micros..... remember to BYOP!

On April 6, 1745 Charles Wells was born in Baltimore County, Maryland. Around 1802, Charles moved to Tyler County, then a part of Ohio County, Virginia. He had a survey taken of 200 acres and when he died April 16, 1815 he left his land to divide among his children. It was on the tracts left to daughters Sarah and Delilah that Sistersville, named for these sisters, was built. There was already a Wellsville, Virginia, so the town was named Sistersville.

Charles Wells, one of a handful of Revolutionary War soldiers buried in the county, is buried in the Wells Family Cemetery.

You will also find the stone of Twenty Wells, the twentieth child of Charles Wells!

Take time to look at the markers of the Russell's in the center of the cemetery. They are of both stone and log and inscribed as "Born in Donegal, Ireland". They came to Tyler County during the War of 1812. The two brothers married Wells sisters: Joshua to Caty Adams Wells, the twenty-first child and William married Betsy Prather Wells, the twenty-second child of Charles Wells.

FTF Congratulations go to BigCat. Way to go!
