Part One
We're meeting for a chatty meet and greet (and eat if you're here
long enough) at the world famous Blue Adobe Grille in north
Scottsdale, just off Shea at FLW. The fun begins at 5:29
(and not a minute before) when we will award local restaurant gift
certificates to the first 2 to 9 geocaching teams, so try to
arrive on time (it's all about the TIME today, not the numbers,
eh?). Be sure to sign in and drop off TBs and geocoins at our
raffle stations. The average dinner at Blue Adobe Grille runs about
$12.00 with beverage and dessert, gratuity not included. For a
complete menu, go to http://www.blueadobegrille.com/. Please post a
Will Attend log with the number attending, so I can let them know
how many to expect for dinner. We'll then dine at our leisure until
we leap outside for part two of this event.
Leap to Part Two
Be there for part two at 6:29 for the Flash Mob
photo. You've heard of mega-events? A Flash Mob is a large group of
cachers who gather at a location, get their picture taken, and then
quickly leave. This second part of this event will last exactly 15
minutes, not one second longer according to our GPS clocks. It
begins precisely at 6:29 pm when we will place an umbrella and a
container near the coordinates above. You will be given your own
log sheet to sign, so bring your own writing utensil and put the
completed sheet into the container. Only people who attend the
Flash Mob and have their names in the container will be able to log
this event twice, because, after all, it IS LEAP DAY! Anyone else
claiming the Flash Mob photo will have their second log entry
deleted.
6:24pm - Arrive in the general area of the posted coordinates.
Notice they are not exact (but very special).
6:29pm - An umbrella and a container will be placed near
the coordinates, signaling the start of the Flash Mob. Quickly go
to the umbrella, grab a name tag, a paper with the coordinates to
the event's third (and last) stop, and a log sheet. Complete the
log sheet and put it into the container. Complete your name tag and
wear it proudly for the photo.
6:39pm - A group photo will be taken. Listen to the photographer
for instructions.
6:43pm - MommieMogger will announce one minute to go.
6:44pm - The container is sealed. The remainder of the event
will be at those coordinates distributed to those attending the
Flash Mob.
Leap to Part Three (Final)
Be at the coordinates distributed at the Flash Mob by 7:29
for the raffle of 2 to 9 various unregistered geocoins from
the unimoggers' private collection. Proceeds will be donated to the
Alzheimer's Association, Desert Southwest Chapter. Then relax and
enjoy geo-conversation at this historic landmark restaurant/bar to
be announced at the Flash Mob. Just a little note about Part 3 of
this event: it's not really a restaurant; it is technically a bar,
according to the state. It has great, casual outdoor atmosphere and
family friendly entertainment, although we are not bringing the
MiniMoggers. It will be way past their little bedtime. We really
hope you enjoy this place as much as I have over the many years.
Please let me know if you will be attending this dinner or the
earlier dinner. Dinner prices here are roughly $10.
A Leap Year Ditty to Remember It By
Thirty days hath September,
April, June and November;
All the rest have thirty-one
Save February, she alone
Hath eight days and a score
Til leap year gives her one day more.
BONUS! *If you didn't know, the tradition of women
romantically pursuing men in leap years began in 5th century
Ireland, when St. Bridget complained to St. Patrick about the women
having to wait for men to propose. Patrick finally relented and set
February 29 aside as the day set aside allowing women the right to
ask for a man's hand in marriage. The tradition continued in
Scotland, when Queen Margaret declared in 1288 that on February 29
a woman had the right to pop the question to any man she fancied.
Menfolk who refused were faced with a fine in the form of a kiss, a
silk dress, or a pair of gloves given to the rejected lady. So if
you're a lady in need of a husband or pair of gloves, today's your
day.
