When one first glances at a map it is easy to jump to the conclusion that what you are seeing is the “bigger picture” from a viewpoint that up until modern times was reserved for birds, deities, and the stars. But what a map is actually giving you is a “smaller picture” or a glimpse into a rarely seen way of viewing everyday life. Every map is the world seen through a different lens. Maps filter out all but one specific detail of our reality. A street map for example, goes into great detail about the streets, their names, placement, and interconnectivity. However, it only shows us one aspect of the many things that make up a community. Other specific maps exist that show us population, topography, political boundaries, and a limitless supply of other information.
This micro cache is NOT located at the listed coordinates! In order to find it you are going to have to make your way through the heart, landscape, and culture of the Old Dundalk community. For years an urban legend has circulated throughout the quiet roads of our hometown. This legend claims that within the original community design and layout of the streets, there is hidden a great sea faring vessel, the symbol of our local Dundalk Patapsco Neck Historical Society.
You are going to have to investigate this legend for its authenticity. While searching through the archives of the historical society my research led me to the discovery of an antique map. I will post a scan of the map in the cache listing’s photo gallery. It is my hunch that this map is the key to uncovering the truth about the great ship.
In order to find the cache, pursue the mystery through the following steps.
PRINT OUT A COPY OF THE MAP (LOCATED IN THE GALLERY) AND TAKE IT WITH YOU.
Stage 1. Go to the listed coordinates. It is at this location that I have cached the needed coordinates to begin your quest. They will direct you to your next step. Find the coordinates and proceed to their designated location.
Stage 2. THERE IS NO PHYSICAL CACHE LOCATED HERE! Once you have arrived at Stage 2, it is time to put away your GPS and pull out your map. You’ll find your current location (at the ship’s bow or front) represented on the map by a “Green Dot”. Utilize the map, street layout, and your own geo-sense of direction to find your way to the third and final stage (represented on the map by the “Red “X).
Stage 3. Once you have arrived at the location represented by the “Red X” on your map, it’s time to start looking for the cache. To reduce your search area, utilize the map and be sure that you are on the appropriate corner of the intersection before you begin your search.
Three hints are listed (one for each stage) if you need further assistance.
Good luck on your journey.
