Geocache Description:

Come find some geodes at the Dugway Geode Beds - Rockhounding is the original geocache!

Well, I have had many people request to have an event set up to dig geodes so here it is.

I will be leaving Friday night about 5:30 to 6:00 from the Cache (visit link) "A Scent to Remember." and spending the night. If you would like to caravan with us meet us at "A scent to Remember". It takes me about 3 1/2 to 4 hours to drive to the geode beds from my home.

If you just want to travel there yourself, directions may be found at the following link:
(visit link)

You will travel on more than 50miles of dirt road. If it is dry, just about any vehicle can make it. I have been out there with 2 wheel drive cars. *NOTE: The washboards will make for a bumpy ride.

There isn't any potable water. Please bring plenty of water and any food for your meals.

Recommended Equipment to bring:
Sunscreen
Protective clothing - gloves, goggles, hat, jacket, sturdy shoes
Pick axe - I bring both a medium and large.
Shovel
Rock hammer
buckets or crates in which to place your "finds"
first-aid kit.

Cells phones may or may not work in the area. I know T-mobile doesn't but do not know about other carriers.

PLEASE email me if you have questions.
We will be heading back about 3pm.

If you come with us or meet us there, we will show you how to find geodes.

There are a few geocaches in the area also.
Bring your travel bugs so others may discover them also!
I will be bringing some "surprises" for various prizes.

****Note added March 18, 2008. We are making arrangements to have a generator and tile saw out there so that we may cut some geodes vs. breaking them open with a hammer. Also Hans from Oakcoins will try to make it Saturday. (He always brings some nice swag!)
****Note 2: I have had a few requests to meet at Tooele so some people don't have to drive all the way up to West Point. I refuel in Tooele just off of exit 99. Email me if you want to join the "caravan" in Tooele so we will be sure to look for you!
