Geocache Description:

The cache is located close to the southern most point of a beautiful circular walk that encircles the jacobean manor house at the centre of Godinton Park.

The cache can be found by either starting at Godinton House, when it is open to the public or alternatively the preferred trail route starts in the picturesque village of Great Chart. The listed coordinates are of a railway bridge, which overlooks the area of the cache site. To find the cache you must solve the clue! Godinton House can be found off of Godinton Lane, Ashford, Kent, TN23 3BP. The house, gardens and tea rooms are only open mainly at the weekends between the end of March and the beginning of October. For full entry details and details of the house visit - http://www.godinton-house-gardens.co.uk/index.asp If the house is not open when you decide to visit there is ample parking in Great Chart Village. The route from the village starts as part of The Ashford Green Corridor. See The Green Corridor overview at - http://www.ashfordgreencorridor.org.uk/map_main.htm For parking at Great Chart see - http://www.ashfordgreencorridor.org.uk/sites_gt_chart.htm The trail starts from Great Chart Cricket Ground at waypoint N 51 08.705, E 000 50.062, close to South Lodge. You will need to take the path past the cricket ground towards the railway bridge at N 51 08.956, E 000 50.080. From on top of the railway bridge you will be able to see the cache site, but that would be far too easy! You are close to the start of a circular route around the jacobean mansion Godinton House. Carry on over the bridge and next to the river is an information board, which provides details of the route. A dowloadable PDF of the route can be found at: http://cwr.naturalengland.org.uk/DisplayImage.aspx?Type=Mapboard&IFN=200060229.pdf If you are feeling energetic the route is about 5 km and will bring you back here after you have collected the clue to the final cache location. It takes you through some of the best parts of the estate, with open pastures and ancient bluebell filled woodland. Look out for the brown trout in the stream. The route is best tackled anticlockwise so it is all downhill on the way back! If you are tight for time or already have tired legs the clue to the location of the final cache is much closer at N 51 09.236, E 000 49.978 (about 400m away). From this location you can see the south face of Godinton House. Here you will find the final information you need. The final cache is at N 51 09.1AB, E 000 50.1CE, Where AB is over CDEF, below 33 ??????????????? From the cache site, you can retrace your steps to the village where both the pubs are excellent for food and real ales or to the tea rooms at Godinton House for excellent home made cakes and cream teas! From either start location the cache should take about an hour to complete on the quick route. If you choose to take the circular route walk this will obviously take longer.
