The above coordinates take you to the first airport terminal in
Dothan. I (ccindyy) recall driving there from Enterprise, when I
was little, to drop off my dad to catch a plane for his first tour
of duty in Vietnam. The building is now used for art classes.
The runways are still there and are used for parking along the
soccer and baseball fields. They were just resurfaced this past
year in 2007.
"On August 1, 1940, the first regularly scheduled airmail and
passenger service to Dothan began when Eastern's Dixie Rebel (shown
in this 1940 photograph) landed. Over 500 people attended the
airport inauguration ceremonies that day. Dr. I. C. Bates greeted
the visitors, and Harry Hall delivered the welcoming address."
