Geocache Description:

Near a sheltered spring by the open hills of the Dipsea Trail. The third stage of Opening the Mountain. Up the Dipsea from Muir Woods or a mile from Pantoll.

This stage was originally "Ocean View," an outcropping of rocks at the crest of the Dipsea. More recently, people have been going on to Lone Tree Spring -- which is just down (or up) the trail from the cache. The Spring was built by the Tamalpais Conservation Club in 1917 and has long provided the only source (untreated) of drinking water on the Dipsea. Early pictures show a single redwood on the hillside that once gave its name to the spring. The redwood is now surrounded by Douglas Fir.
Gary Snyder:

A ring of outcropped rocks. A natural little dolmen-circle right where the Dipsea crests on the ridge. Looking down a canyon to the ocean — not so far.

Dhâranî for Removing Disasters
Hari Om Namo Shiva

And on to Pan Toll, across the road, and up the Old Mine Trail. A doe and a fawn, silvery gray. More crows.

Philip Whalen:

Trail crosses fire road at hilltop
Address to the Ocean
Siva music addressed to the peaks.

The cache is placed a short distance from the Spring. From there, continue on to the Heart of the Mountain.
