A walk passed a play park to the entrance of a field. A small Hawthorne tree is growing near the cache.
The Fife and Kinross Railway ran from Ladybank to Kinross, The first section from Ladybank to Strathmiglo was opened on the 6th June 1857the section between Strathmiglo and Milnathort was opened on the 9th September1858. The line was first used Kinross Loch Leven Station for a very short time until a joint Station was opened on the 20th August 1858. This was Kinross Junction Station were the line from Perth to Edinburgh had a junction towards the Crooke of Devon.
On the 6th June 1950 the line from Ladybank to Mawcarse Junction was closed to Passengers and on the 29th January 1957 the Bridge on Station Road Auchtermuchty collapsed, the line from Ladybank to Auchtermuchty was closed to freight, on the 13th June 1964 Mawcarse station was closed to passengers on the 5th October 1964 Auchtermuchty to Mawcarse was closed to freight..
It was a easy to build as there was no need for any major constructional work, and it was estimated that the 14 miles would cost about £55,000.
Parking in Sommerfields car park which stands on the site of the junction for the Crooke of Devon. Cross the road and as you pass the play park you will see the face of one of the stations plateforms. Most of the station and buildings were lost when the M90 junction was built. the south bound off slip and that part of the roundabout burying it.
In summer this cache will be dfficult to retrieve as stinging nettles live and grow around the cache, so go prepared.
