St. Michael’s church is located in a remote, quiet valley over the west hills of Bridgnorth. It sits alongside the magnificent Elizabethan Upton Cressett Hall. St. Michael’s church is located in a remote, quiet valley over the west hills of Bridgnorth. It sits alongside the magnificent Elizabethan Upton Cressett Hall. The Upton family dates from Saxon times and joined the Cressett family through marriage in the fourteenth century. The church is mostly Norman with the chancel arch, south doorway and some of the windows standing as a strong testament to this however, other centuries have also left their mark. The church was closed for worship in 1959 but in 1968 a medieval wall painting was uncovered in the west wall.
This is one of our favourites as it was open to visitors a time of planting cache. You could sense the age from inside . Please be careful on the last few yards as there is a deep drop by bridge. Please be Vigilant when retreiving and replacing the cache.
