Geocache Description:

A straightforward cache to bring you to Collister Pill. By the way, this is an area that I generally visit twice a week when exercising my dog, Merlin. So, if you see a tall bloke with a brown dog, it's probably me! Please say hello!!

The Gwent Levels have been an important place for humans for thousands of years. Indeed Mesolithic human footprints and camp sites, and well-preserved wooden Bronze Age/lron Age houses and trackways, have all been discovered in the area through careful archaeology.

In order for the area to survive, various forms of sea walls have been built over the years, to varying degrees of success. The current sea wall was built following a tidal surge in 1990 which almost caused great devastation for the area.

Collister Pill is an important site, as the new sea wall has not destroyed the old wall that dates back to mediaeval times. Included in the waypoints are two sites where the old wooden posts that were then packed with stones and earth, are now protruding due to the inevitable sea erosion.
