Geocache Description:

This Challenge involves Caches throughout the Portland Metro Region and utilizes the '2008 Thomas Map Guide to Portland'. It is a 5 Star/5 Star cache based on its difficulty and the time investment to complete it. Please read all the guidelines before you attempt to 'Log' this Cache.

You may also use the 2009 Edition of Thomas Guide for this Challenge but be careful and do not include any Caches between the outermost thin red line on the top, right, left or bottom side of the page as that area is overlap with the adjacent pages!! The Purpose of the “Thomas” Challenge is to promote and expand Geocaching in the Portland Area. Many Portland Geocachers may wish to participate in the Oregon DeLorme Challenge [GCQKKE] or the Counting Counties in Oregon (CCIO) Challenge [GCR9XY] but cannot commit to such extensive travel throughout the State of Oregon. This Challenge is for them and any other Geocacher that wishes to participate. THIS GEOCACHE IS IN PLACE AT THE ABOVE COORDINATES BUT CAN ONLY BE LOGGED BY THOSE CACHERS THAT HAVE POSTED A PUBLIC BOOKMARK TO THIS PAGE THAT SHOWS EACH OF THE PAGES THEY ARE CLAIMING. THIS BOOKMARK MUST THEN BE VERIFIED DEFORE THE CACHE IS CLAIMED AS 'FOUND'. YOU MUST READ THIS GEOCACHE INFORMATION PAGE FOR THE REQUIREMENTS AND COMPLETE THEM TO ‘LOG’ THIS GEOCACHE. WHEN YOU HAVE MET THE REQUIREMENTS, E-MAIL THE CACHE OWNER AT THEIR PROFILE ON GEOCACHING.COM AND REQUEST VERIFICATION THAT THE CONDITIONS FOR SEEKING THIS CACHE HAVE BEEN MET. Any person ‘Logging’ this Geocache without fully meeting the requirements will have their Log Deleted but may continue the Challenge until all conditions are met. There is no time limit on this Geocache but by the time that you have met the requirements, you will have visited and enjoyed much that the Portland Area has to offer. To Claim a "Find” for this Geocache you will need to: 1. Use, or have access to, "The Thomas Guide Portland Street Guide 2008" and ‘Find’ a Geocache on every pair of pages in that publication. (A ‘Pair of Pages’ is defined as any two pages bearing the same Thomas Map Reference Number which can be seen easily on the inside fold-out cover [Page B] of the map guide) that cover a portion of Oregon in that Map Guide.) No Geocaches in Washington State will count toward the Portland Thomas Challenge. 2. ANY Geocache published on geocaching.com is eligible for a ‘Find’ if it meets all the other requirements of the “Thomas Challenge”. ANY Geocaches that you have ever ‘Found’ that meet the listed requirements count toward the completion of this Challenge. If the Geocache that you Claim has been archived, your provision of the GC Number is adequate proof that it was a valid Geocache. 3. Because some of the pages include areas that Geocachers may have great difficulty accessing (For example, the islands in the Columbia River), every person attempting this Challenge can claim up to 5 (Five) ‘Freebie’ pages. Be sure to specify which pairs of pages are to be granted ‘Freebie’ status on your Bookmark List. 4. All Geocaches claimed under this Challenge must be claimed under standard geocaching.com guidelines (i.e., You must sign the Log and Log it on geocaching.com. If an Owner of a Geocache that you claim has specific guidelines for claiming a ‘Find’ and Deletes your Log because you did not abide by their guidelines, that Geocache shall not count toward completion of this Challenge). FOR THE PURPOSE OF THIS CHALLENGE, THE POSTED COORDINATES OF PUZZLES AND MULTI-CACHES WILL BE THE PAGE LOCATION FOR THAT 'FIND'. IN ADDITION, ANY CACHE PLACED BY A PARTICIPANT IN THIS CHALLENGE CAN BE CLAIMED BY THAT PARTICIPANT WITHOUT LOGGING A 'FIND' ON GEOCACHING.COM OR SIGNING THE LOG FOR THAT CACHE. 5. When you have completed this Challenge, notify 'Clackamas Geocaching Association' (Geocache Owner) at their e-mail address found on the appropriate geocaching.com Profile page, that your results in their Public Bookmark is ready for verification. Please report your Claims in the following format: Map Page Number (include Left or Right) followed by the GC Number for the Geocache, i.e., Page 711L, GCX8X8X; Page 712R, GCY6Y66, etc. Special Note: Depending on the interest in this Challenge, there may be a follow-on Challenge. That Challenge would use the unused page of the pair of pages that you previously used this Thomas Challenge, i.e., if you used 625 Right (625R) this time, you would have to use 625 Left (625L) for the follow-on Challenge with a different Final Geocache. Therefore, it would be worthwhile to keep a copy of your Bookmark submittal for the follow-on Challenge! 6. Once your verification is complete, you may 'find' and 'Log' "The Portland Thomas Map Challenge" at the above provided coordinates. That verification is valid only for the Geocacher that submits his/her claim and not for anyone else that may accompany that Geocacher to the Final Cache. In other words, only one Logging per Verification, any others will be Deleted. 7. Finally, Pheew! That was a bunch of Rules!! Please check back to this Cache Page for Updates prior to submitting your Final Log List to Owner for Review. Geocache Owner reserves the right to clarify/add/alter Requirements based on problems or issues. It wouldn’t hurt to check every so often just so you don’t have to redo something, OK? ALL CHANGES/ADDITIONS/CLARIFICATIONS TO THE BASIC INFORMATION GIVEN FOR INITIAL PUBLICATION OF THIS CACHE SHALL BE ENTERED IN ALL CAP LETTERS (LIKE THIS SENTENCE). There will be a significant reward for the First To Find (FTF) with less significant rewards for Second and Third Finders not in the same Family or on the same Team. Trades to the Final Cache container to maintain the Geocache Inventory are strongly encouraged but leaving TB’s and Coins may not be worthwhile due to the possible infrequent visits to the Geocache. Thank you very much for respecting these rules. The intent is to have a level playing field and, remember, Geocaching is supposed to be fun! To gain credit for this find (You do not want to have your Log deleted), you must satisfy the Thomas Challenge Geocache Owner that all requirements have been met. The 5/5 Rating of this Cache is based on the time, effort and difficulty of completing all the Requirements necessary to Log this Cache. Signing the ‘Physical Log’ without completing the Requirements specified for this Cache will result in the DELETION of your Log Entry. This “Thomas Challenge” should be fun and I am counting on the Honor System for sticking to the Rules. I will spot check, or completely check, the submitted Claims for Completion depending on my time availability, but don’t want the task of being a ‘Cache Police’ and check every ‘Find’. Just like the middle square in BINGO! (These two pages are in addition to the other 5 "Freebies" that you may choose.) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> THIS NOTE IS IN ALL CAPS TO DRAW YOUR ATTENTION TO A COUPLE OF CHANGES IN THE REQUIREMENTS. NOTHING BIG. 1. TO MAKE IT EASIER FOR ME TO CHECK THE COMPLETION OF THE CHALLENGE, PLEASE CREATE YOUR BOOKMARK LIST (OR OTHER SUBMISSION METHOD IF YOU ARE NOT A PREMIUM MEMBER) IN PAGE NUMBER SEQUENCE. THAT CAN BE DONE BY ENTERING YOUR CLAIMS INTO THE BOOKMARK IN THE FORMAT: "PAGE 384-L" AND THEN CACHE NAME GC #, ETC. IF EVERY ENTRY STARTS WITH "PAGE XXX-(L or R)" THE BOOKMARK WILL SEQUENCE THE ORDER OF THE PAGES NUMERICALLY AND MAKE MY TASK MUCH EASIER. THE LAST BOOKMARK LIST THAT I WILL CHECK UNDER THE 'OLD'SYSTEM IS FAKARI MAMA'S. MANY THANKS! 2. I HAVE ADDED A "PAGE B" TO THE LIST. YOU CAN CLAIM A CACHE THERE OR USE IT AS ONE OF YOUR FREEBIES. SHEEESH, IF YOU CAN'T FIND A CACHE TO CLAIM FOR PAGE B, THEN YOU HAVEN'T BEEN OUTSIDE OF PORTLAND. YOU CAN FIND PAGE B BY LOOKING ON THE INSIDE OF THE FRONT FLAP OF THE GUIDE. CONFINE YOUR CACHE CHOICE TO THE AREA ON THAT MAP AND OUTSIDE OF THE NUMBERED PAGES. NO CACHES IN HAWAII OR GERMANY!! OH, WHAT THE HECK!!! JUST FOR FUN, WHY DON'T YOU POST YOUR 'FOUND' CACHE THAT IS FARTHEST FROM PORTLAND. FOR THAT ONE NO PAGE NUMBER!! NOTHING, YOU ARE JUST, SORT OF, BRAGGING ABOUT WHERE YOU GOT A CACHE FAR AWAY FROM PORTLAND!! MANY THANKS TO ALL THAT ARE PARTICIPATING. I HOPE YOU ARE SEEING NEW AREAS AND ENJOYING YOURSELVES. AFTER ALL, THAT IS WHAT GEOCACHING IS ALL ABOUT. ORNITH FOR CLACKAMAS GEOCACHING ASSOCIATION CHECK OUT OUR 6TH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL CITO EVENT AND THE WORLDWIDE FLASH MOB (WWFM) EVENTS!! Enjoy!
