Geocache Description:

The three reservoirs here were used by the local bleachworks. The bleachworks was set up by William Sykes and his partner in 1792. Sykes became the sole owner in 1795. Edgely bleachworks was one of the two most important textiles finishing sites in the borough, the other being the Heaton Mersey works founded by Samual and Thomas Oldknow in 1784. The Oldknows were forced to withdraw from their enterprise by financial and trading difficulties, but the Sykes undertaking went on to become one of the longest established family firms in Stockport
