Geocaching 102: Field Study Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

South Lyon Trekkers: This one has been problematic with cachers not knowing how to close the bag. It is a dry bag, but must be sealed properly. It's been around long enough anyway. Time to archive it. Pulled the container this morning. -SLT

Geocache Description:

This geocache is located in the Maybury State Park and offers miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horse riding. A motor vehicle permit is needed and daily permits are $6.00 for Michigan residents, $8.00 for non-residents.

This geocache was placed in conjunction with a Geocaching 101 class we taught at a local outfitter in Northville in March of 2008. The geocache container and its initial contents were provided by the outfitter.

Maybury State Park is a 1000 acre park located on a site that was formerly a tuberculous sanatorium. Maybury Sanatorium, as it was known, housed tuberculous patients during the 1920s through the 1960s. It was demolished in the early 1970s when it was converted into a state park. There are remnants of some of the buildings throughout the park.

In 2006, the Friends of Maybury, Michigan DNR, a local health association, and the aforementioned outfitter created the History Trail through Maybury "to celebrate the people who lived and worked at Maybury Sanatorium, and the work they did there to fight tuberculosis." This geocache is accessible from the history trail which is mostly paved. The geocache is also accessible from the hiking trail. In fact, those who are inclined to travel the entire History Trail may like to find victorymike's Maybury Sanatorium
.
This geocache is placed under an agreement with the DNR and a permit was approved by the park manager.

This geocache was stocked with a good amount of trade items. Please trade fairly for other geocachers. Travel bugs and geocoins are welcome.

The container is clear, water-tight, gear bag with some camouflage Duck Tape strategically placed. Instructions to close the bag are printed on the bag.

We take great care in creating and hiding our geocaches. If ever one of our geocaches needs maintenance of any type, please do not hesitate to contact us by posting a log or by e-mail. We will promptly rectify the problem.

Don't forget Cache In Trash Out.

The FTF prize is the glory and fame associated with being the first to find. It was earned by Globetrotters.US on March 23, 2008. Congratulations!
