Geocache Description:

This is a very easy, family friendly, all-types-of-weather, traditional cache. It is on private property and permission has been given by the owner. The challenge is to hide your activity from muggles and enjoy a piece of history.

Historical information: The house was constructed in 1896 by Malcolm McInnis, who, along with two partners, owned the largest lumber business in Big Bend County. As a contractor, McInnis was able to secure the best building materials for the beautiful Queen Anne style home. The courthouse was being built at the same time and the two structures both had classic brick siding. In 1910 the house was sold to Jack Adams, a Kentucky native who owned the town’s racetrack and kept his racehorses on his estate. When he died, the house slowly deteriorated over the next 30 years. Lew & Mildred Hutsell purchased the home in the 1950s, gutted it, and completely remodeled the inside. They also painted the golden-beige bricks a Pepto-Bismol pink and turned it into Pink House Antiques with apartments upstairs. Their grandson was the next owner and he remodeled the house in the mid-1980s, covering the pink brick with vinyl siding. While taking out the porch railing, he found the signatures of the original general contractor, the carpenter and the plasterer carved in the wood. The current owners have owned the home since 2002 and turned it into what it is now. Feel free to stop in and enjoy yourself!

This is the first cache placed by TheCosmos.
