Geocache Description:

Grandchester in its heyday was the end of the first railway line in Queensland which headed west from Ipswich and was opened in 1865. Today the town still features the historic railway station - the oldest in Queensland. More of note is the steam driven sawmill which remains in operation and uses sawdust produced in the cutting process to burn and heat the water to generate the steam.

The town was initially known as Bigges Camp and was earlier a campsite of Cunningham during his exploration of the area in the 1820s. The arrival of the railway line heralded a change to the current more grandiose name.

For what is these days a small town, there is a surprisingly large park area hidden away off the highway. There are swings, toilets, a BBQ and some covered sitting areas to relax away your time. Look out for the impressive war memorial monument.

The cache has been hidden in bushland adjacent to the park and just out of the sight of neighbouring houses. Enjoy the peaceful surrounds (apart from the occasional car heading past on the highway).
