**UPDATE 5/22/09** The cache used to be tied to the tree in the picture, too easy, I moved it about 25 ft. and stashed it in a spot more befitting a 5/5. I also updated the numbers in the caps of the other caches to reflect the new spot. Happy hunting.

So, you've made it this far, good for you, now get up that little hill and and sign the log! When I first visited this spot I tried to make it to the top. I made it about halfway when I decided that to go any further would make the trip back down too risky. So, I returned with a 100' of rope and decided that this would make a fine terrain 5 cache spot. I simply looped the rope around the tree in the picture and used it doubled up so I could retrieve it and the trip back down was sooo easy. Since that time I have found that there is a route up the hill that requires nothing but a bit of fortitude.

I don't want to either poo-poo the difficulty/risk of this cache nor overhype it. It's tough, the terrain and navigation to the final hill is tough. You will lose the trail and could possibly feel a little anxious at times. The good thing about this park is that you can never become "truly" lost (misplaced maybe), the ocean is always on one side and hiway 101 is always on the opposite side.

To get started, park at House Rock Viewpoint and head north on the trail, follow the directions for BeachCliff and make a left instead of a right at the logical point. This is right around a 3.5 mile round trip. You may want to mark your trail with colored tape but if you do please remove on your way out, this is meant to be mentally and physically hard, you have to earn it and so does anyone searching for it after you.

You can reach the cache with no special equipment but if you choose the wrong route up the hill you might feel a lot safer if you bring the 100' of rope for the trip back down.

The distances are not great but don't be fooled, leave yourself plenty of daylight to get in and out. You do not want to get stuck here in the dark flashlight or no. Do your best to avoid wet and slippery conditions.

You might look at the photo on my profile page and think that this portly 50 year-old is blowing smoke up your dress and has inflated the difficulty of this cache. I love that kind of thinking, come and get it!
