In 1977, a Beech F35 was destroyed when the aircraft's pilot failed to safely navigate past some electrical wires which stretched across the valley before the final approach to the airport.
The wires were blamed for this and two seperate crashes in 1980, involving a Cessna 150 and later a Piper PA28 when thier pilots also failed to see the wires.
After these accidents, large colored balls where fastened on the wires to improve the wires visibility and to alert pilots of the danger while approaching the airport.
While the airport's location has changed to a nearby mountaintop, if you look above you while signing the log, you will see that the markers on the wires remain.
