A multi cache in the Heathcote Valley area of the Port Hills. Two of the waypoints and the cache are close to walking tracks. However, Wpt2 is in the middle of an industrial area and you might be a bit conspicuous if you go there in working hours. There is 4 km of walking if you drive 2 km of the distance between Wpt2 and Wpt3. There is about 200 m height gain. GPS reception can be a bit variable, but you do not need to climb over any fences to find the waypoints.
At each waypoint you are looking for a single digit number. X at Wpt1, Y at Wpt2 and Z at Wpt3. None of the numbers are the same. Ignore the decimal point when doing your sums.
Wpt1 - The above coordinates. Use the carpark at S43 34.268 E172 41.382.
Wpt2 - To calculate the offset from Wpt1 use: S-166xX, E+11xX Avoid going there in working hours. It’s easier just to walk from Wpt1.
Wpt3 - To calculate the offset from Wpt2 use: S+(60xX+Y)xY, E+(81xX)xY+(XxX) Park at the carpark and use the two walking tracks. Don’t try going cross country. The waypoint is 9 m West of the coordinates, but GPS reception still isn’t great. Bring your reading glasses. It's easier to find if you lean over slightly.
Final - To calculate the offset from Wpt3 use: S+60xZ+((Z-X)xY), E-(12xYxZ+X). Use the two walking tracks to get to the cache, but it is not suitable for small children..
