No Berries Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

geodarts: The creek is running below. The rocky outcrop stands in contrast to the sky and hills. It was nice, but time to move on.

Geocache Description:

Lower Berry Trail. A rocky crag.

This old Indian trail was rediscovered by Lucien Berry (whose ashes were eventually scattered in the area). Old maps added the notation "no berries" so that people would not be confused.

We took a nice family walk from Lagunitas Dam, up the Lagunitas-Rock Spring Fire Road to the signed trail, following that back down to the lake to complete the loop. Along the way, we found this beautiful spot that seemed to call out for a cache. Someone wanted to put it in an adventuresome spot, but I opted for a more family-friendly location, a little to the side of the main attraction, that should be an easy find without having to risk any body parts.

Although there are plenty of ways to hike or bike into this area, the water district charges a $7 parking fee for the Sky Oaks trailheads if you do not have a yearly pass (or cannot think of a local Fairfax resident from whom you might be able to borrow one). Combine it with a picnic near the dam and some other caches in the area and it is a bargain.
