Geocache Description:

Colley Hill
Section 19, Hundred of Witera on Eyre Peninsula. Named after R.B. Colley who held an adjacent pastoral lease.
The Colley School was inexplicably opened as "Collie" in 1913; it closed in 1939.
(It was there that my parents met as my mother was a teacher).
Observer,
25 May 1912, page 41e:
The two recently established half-time schools, Conglima and Collie [sic], are in the midst of a dense scrub where the settler has much to do in the way of clearing... At Collie the school had only been opened five days and the children, not having attended school before, had all been placed in the junior class. A bright girl of 17 years and 10 months, who was picked out as the best, attempted to read, but failed to do so... (Maybe it was my Grandma!!)

Some local trivia—In the late 1950’s there were some animosity in the district about nearby Port Kenny having tennis courts and “we don’t, Boo Hoo”, so the local Colley community decided to build their own. (Again my relations were involved but I’m not sure why) The remnants of these courts are at GZ. They were never used! Colley also boasted a cricket team with the oval still to be seen next door to the Hall.
A small plastic cammo container with note pad and pencil but room for small items if you wish.
