Geocache Description:

We had been hiking for HOURS at this point - and had visited half a dozen caches on our extended loop around Briones. Every time we though we were done with the climbing...

We'd come around a corner, or reach another intersection, and find ourselves going back UP. This was particularly true not long after we passed this spot. When I spotted the 'watering hole' and checked for nearby caches - I had an idea.

But everyone else was anxious to get back 'down' the hill, to the cars (it was after sunset now, and starting to get dark). I had the only flashlight in the crew - but as they rounded this corner and continued on, I called out "I'll catch up with you, in just a minute".

I didn't find a good spot near the trough - but I walked out on the knoll a ways, and came upon a spot that cried out for a cache. I didn't think I spent that long selecting a hiding spot (after a couple of attempts), and snapping coordinates - but I would later realize that I'd really fallen behind.

I placed the only container I had - what, another micro in the middle of the woods? Yep, sorry - but I could only carry so many ammo cans in my pack at a time. I may upgrade this container the next time I pass by, but for now - this definitely marks this cool spot.

The funny thing is - I think no matter WHICH way you approach this cache, there will be a significant amount of UPhill to get here. We were nearing the end (or so we naively though) of a long hike, but still found there was plenty of ascent to be had between us, and our cars in the parking lot below.

When I finally had the cache set, and went to catch up with the crew - I found myself jogging down the trails, expecting to catch up with them any minute. I slowed to a fast walk to go up some hills, then resumed running back down - and FINALLY, caught up with them. Good thing, since i had the only flashlight in the crew. It was probably still another 30 minutes before we made it back to the car - though I suspect your targeted, destination-specific approach will take you less time.

Enjoy!
