Geocache Description:

A walk around the village of Upper Farringdon in Hampshire

THERE IS NO NEED TO GO ONTO PRIVATE LAND OR UP PRIVATE DRIVES AS ALL CLUES ARE VISIBLE FROM THE ROAD/PAVEMENT.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL AS YOU WALK AS MOST OF THE VILLAGE HAS NO PAVEMENT.

It should take an hour or so to complete unless you get sidetracked into the Rose and Crown.
It starts from Massey’s Folly near the Church where on road parking is available.

There is an unregistered TB dog tag as a prize for the FTF

Massey's Folly is an immense structure towering over the surrounding picturesque thatched cottages in the village of Upper Farringdon in North Hampshire. It appeared on the recent series of Restoration Village on BBC2, however it was not chosen to go through to the next stage of the programme.
Built over 40 years from 1870 by the eccentric Rev Thomas Hackett Massey, the building's history remains shrouded in mystery. Part of the building is currently used as a nursery school and many villagers would like to see this continue as well as using the Folly to revitalise the village, its identity and sense of community.

All Saints Church
Gilbert White was curate here,
for nearly four and twenty years
he daily rode the rural track
from Selborne to All Saints and back.
But long before he came this way,
old Farringdon had much to say —
for is it true the hollow yew,
when Christ was born, was far from new?

The Rose and Crown is a traditional village pub, a free house serving a selection of real ales from national and local brewers and excellent home cooked food. The pub was built in 1810 by the Knight family, of Chawton.
