In Where?!? Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Wulffy: This cache seems to have migrated from my original location. I think it may have been just too hard to find. I know the replacement was placed where a user "thought it should be..." This cache will be archived till I can retrieve the original as well as the replacement. It might be reimagined in the future.

How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

This cache will take you for a scenic drive through Sun Lakes - Dry Falls State Park, a nice walk along the shore of Deep Lake, followed by a climb through a Lava Tube thousands of years old, putting you inside a collapsed lava bubble, and finally taking you past an overlook of the lake and you asking, "You want me to stick my hand In Where?!?"

From the dock at Deep Lake, you can see the lava tube that is your objective. Please follow all park rules and stay on established trails, this will allow the cache to remain within the park for all to enjoy. DO NOT create new trails.

This cache can be accessed without going through the lava tube, but the distance you must travel will be much farther. The climb through the tube is much easier than it looks. I am only 5' 9" and not exactly flexible, and I was able to climb in without difficulty. This is a hands and feet required climb in and out, the height is about 7 feet. There are very good hand and foot holds that make it not unlike climbing a ladder.

Be aware of the poison ivy that is growing in the bottom of the collapsed bubble (the sink hole). Be aware, this is snake country... "Again, you want me to stick my hand in where?!?" Reach in and to the left.

Because this cache is in a State Park, there is a valid permit on file with the Parks Department, in addition, it is required that I make you aware of the following information: "1. The geocache may be placed on Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission managed property only by written permission from the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission. 2. The following items shall not be placed in the geocache: Food items; illegal substances; medications; personal hygiene products, pornographic materials; inappropriate, offensive, or hazardous materials or weapons of any type. Log books are required for each cache and are to be provided by the owner of the cache. 3. It is the visitor’s responsibility to orient themselves with policies and rules pertaining to State Parks areas. 4. Report any incident, problem, or violation to State Parks staff."

The area of the park where this cache is located does have some gates that are closed during certain seasons. The walk from the Deep Lake parking area to the cache is approximately a quarter mile. You should be able to drive to this parking area anytime from the end of April through October. If the gate nearest the park office is closed, add approximately 2 miles each way. This gate is closed during winter months; typically November through February. If the gate is closed where the road splits (left to Dry Falls Lake, right to Deep Lake), add approximately 1 mile each way. This gate is closed when Deep Lake is closed for fishing (end of October to last Saturday of April).

Last of all, be safe, know your limits, and have fun. This cache was placed to help get people out and into this beautiful park. I hope that the success of this cache will lead to many others in this historical park and interesting landscape that is unique to our area.
