World Wide Flash Mob Event III
(WWFM III)
This event is part of the WWFM III - World
Wide Flash Mob events all taking place at the same time on May 10,
2008. The event will last exactly 15 minutes, not one second
longer.
Out here in the hinterlands between the SLAGA
territory (St. Louis Area Geocachers Association) and the OMG
territory (Ozark Mountain Geocachers), there is usually little
opportunity to get together with other cachers on our local
stomping grounds. Therefore, we have to make our own opportunities!
The recent OMG gathering in Waynesville was successful, so now
we’ll move to Rolla.
We've noticed several new cachers in the Rolla area in the past
few months (University of Science and Technology? Go figure!). This
will be a chance for them to meet others of their ilk! There are
currently 32 active caches within 15 miles of Rolla (including 2
Earthcaches), and there will probably be a few more in place prior
to the WWFM event. (C'mon, Rolla area cachers!)
This event will be held in Rolla, Missouri, on
the campus of the Missouri University of Science and Technology
(formerly known as University of Missouri – Rolla). The above
coordinates will take you to the designated WWFM gathering
place
The event will be tightly organized with a minute-by-minute
itinerary (synchronized with the GPS clock, of course).
Prior to the event:
• Drive to one of the designated parking area near the coordinates.
Get out of your car and pretend you are a muggle touring around the
MST campus. A map of the campus is available here. Act like you don't know anyone
else.
IMPORTANT: If you get to the area before 1130 hrs, just mill about
and mosey. Be nonchalant and casual. Don't look like a gathering
waiting to happen. Mosey as realistically as you can. This is part
of the fun. Our gathering will seem to appear out of nowhere so
that muggles will not know what is going on.
• At 1159 hrs make your way to the designated event coordinates
shown. Keep acting like you know no one.
• 1200 – H HOUR! - At exactly 12:00 PM as determined by the GPS
clock, an ammo box will be placed on the ground at the designated
coordinates and a signal will be given to signify the start of the
event. You may then converge on the location for the official
event. Log sheets will be handed out. BYOP. Sign individual
log sheets and drop them in the ammo can. Then mingle and chat with
your fellow cachers.
• 1205 hrs – The event “meal” will be served. Don’t bring a big
appetite – it’s just a Hershey kiss!
• 1210 hrs- Assemble for and take group photo. After the photo
briefly mingle & chat.
• 1214 hrs -One minute warning is called "It is now 12:14!" Log
slips will be pulled for the door prizes. Clean up and prepare to
leave, but don’t obviously look like you are preparing to
leave.
• 1215 hrs - Log entries sealed & closed! If you missed the
signing you missed the event. LEAVE the area as quickly as you
gathered. Act like nothing happened.
Difficulty rating of 2 reflects the 15 minute allotted time period
in which to claim the cache. If you aren't prompt you could miss
it.
