Geocache Description:

Easy walking in the Beaverlodge Forest. Pony Trail was once a hauling road for running logs to the local mills and the rest of the world. Urbanization has changed that and now the it’s overgrown to become a great trail for a walk, jog, horseback riding, or riding a bike. Half the trail is flat running through deciduous regrowth and the other half winds it’s way through second growth Fir and Cedar evergreens. There is a great view of Mt. Washington at the Cache.

There are some great trails through this forest, which is in varying degrees of re-growth after logging. There are several access points to the Airport Main Rd. and you will be able to walk or ride a loop to get to this cache and back. Wildlife is also often seen here including deer, elk, black bear and smaller animals. Other trail users (muggles), will be likely. There is always some nice flora and fauna to be seen in any season of the year.

If you’re walking it, I suggest parking along Hilchey Rd. at N 49° 58.425' and W 125° 14.725'. Walk across Dogwood St. to a trail-head. There is a map there showing most of the trails. The best trail to take might be the Connector Trail (N 49° 58.520' and W125° 14.963') which goes West to the Airport Main and then continues West to the Cache. The Hide-Away and Simm’s West Trails will get you close too the other end of Pony Trail. The second recommended access is at N 50° 0.092' and W125° 15.442' at ERT Road. This is a little more direct but the walk is longer at 3.5 km to the cache but it is great for bikes and horse back.

If your ambitious and your looking for an extra cache with a longer walk, or a longer bike ride you can make a loop and include a second cache I placed at the same time called Go For a Walk Cache. I suggest you do that cache first then head North from there to Pony Trail at N 49° 59.048' and W 125° 15.986'. This trail will take you to Pony Up Cache and then back to the Connector Trail.

This Cache is a small 800 ml Lock & Lock container that has been camouflaged but not really hidden so it should be easy to find. It’s just out of view not too far off the path. Log book and trade items available. Please trade up, trade even or don’t trade at all.
