While Earth Day is April 22, we'll mark the occasion on Saturday,
April 19 to take advantage of the weekend. So let's help clean up
popular Panther Beach to mark Earth Day 2008.
We'll start the clean-up at 10 am. That should give any fog a
chance to burn off and any out-of-towners time enough to drive over
in the morning and still participate. Using last year's event as a
guide, we should be done by 11:30 am.
This beach and much of the lands along the coast in this area have
just recently been turned over to the California State Parks
Department but the Department doesn't have funds to manage, patrol
and take care of these areas yet. So let's give the State Parks a
hand this day!

Attendees should wear good hiking boots or shoes and sandals
with good traction for walking down to and up from the beach.
I also recommend work gloves and a bucket to carry trash and
recyclables from the beach back to the parking lot.
Hope for a sunny morning and bring sunglasses. Cameras are also
recommended any time you are along the coast in this area as
well.
At the beach we'll gather up what we can. Last year we collected
a lot of small bits of stuff (bottles and cans) and an occassional
tire and mattress as well.
At the parking lot we'll separate items into distinct piles for
clear glass, green glass, brown glass, aluminum, other metal,
paper, trash and any other unique piles that may show up.
Beach Clean Up Safety Rules
Children should be supervised by adults at all times.
Do not pick up needles, syringes, or broken glass with
unprotected fingers.
Do not turn your back on the ocean.
Do not swim in areas without a lifeguard.
Make sure fire pits are cool before touching.
Driftwood, shells, and seaweed are not trash. Please leave
them on the beach.
Recycle only: aluminum and tin cans, unbroken glass, and #1
and #2 plastic.
Enjoy! And happy caching!
