Tyseley railway station serves the district of Tyseley in
Birmingham, West Midlands, England. It is situated at the junction
of the lines from Birmingham towards Leamington Spa and
Stratford-upon-Avon, and is adjacent to a large railway depot and
the Birmingham Railway Museum.
The station is served by London Midland (who manage the station)
and also by Chiltern Railways. The main station building sits on a
bridge over the tracks. It shares the bridge with Wharfedale Road
(the B4146).
Following the Birmingham to Warwick resignalling of 2007-08, 2
disused platforms have being brought into use, with services
through to Birmingham Moor Street (previously not accessible to
platforms 1 and 2). Two new junctions have being built at each end
of the station, which allows faster train movement through the
station. Services are currently half hourly, with one per hour to
Dorridge and Shirley, and two per hour to Birmingham. The former
Great Western Railway building and platform canopies are
listed.
Nearby is the Tyseley Locomotive Works which is the engineering
subsidiary of the Birmingham Railway Museum Trust, which is a
registered educational charity. The Trust was established to
preserve and demonstrate the steam locomotives in the Tyseley
collection. And where better than on the main line - where they
were designed to operate! Tyseley Locomotive Works has a well
equipped workshop, which maintains steam & diesel locomotives
and coaches to Network Rail standards.
